Company
History
Responding to post WWII demand for composite metals John B. Ulam, founder
of Clad Metals, developed mass production methods for cladding metals
during the years 1947 to 1953. Subsequently he obtained approximately
75 US and international patents. Many of these he liscensed to other
companies who could help him further perfect and expand the cladding
process to other metal combinations and applications. From copper clad
in 1951, stainless with carbon core steel in 1955, stainless clad aluminum
in 1960 to stainless clad copper with a core of aluminum in 1974, he
continued his pioneering work.
It was the invention
of this aluminum core material that helped lead to the formation of
All Clad Metalcrafters in 1974 to manufacture high quality cookware
for the commercial marketplace. By 1978 the two companies joined forces
yet kept their individual identities and purpose. Since that modest
beginning the Clad complex has grown to occupy more than 300,000 square
feet of space in Cannonsburg, PA.
Throughout the 80's
and 90's Clad has continued to flourish and innovate with the dedication
and help of its' many valued customers, employees, investors, business
partners and suppliers. In 1999 Clad was acquired by Waterford , Wedgwood
PLC, giving it even more international prestige and further enhancing
its ability to grow and service it's customers.
